2013 – The 150th Anniversary of the Société des Bains de Mer in Monte-Carlo

Throughout the year, the Monte-Carlo SBM group is organising a programme of festivities to celebrate its 150th anniversary.



2013 is a dream year for the Monte-Carlo SBM group, as it's the year of the company's 150th anniversary.

The "Société des Bains de Mer et du Cercle des Etrangers à Monaco" ("The Sea Bathing and Foreigners' Circle in Monaco Co.,") or SBM, was created in 1863, under the aegis of François Blanc.  It is now known as the Monte-Carlo SBM.

The 2013 festivities begin with "MONACOPOLIS," a major exhibition at the New National Museum of Monaco.  The exhibition retraces the various stages of urbanisation and the expansion of this legendary city.

On 23 March, the Rose Ball will open the celebrations on the theme of the "Rose Ball of the Rock."  The evening will be a mix of past and present, with Karl Lagerfeld as artistic director.

On 2 April, the anniversary of the creation of the company, the book "Rêves, de la Société des Bains de Mer à Monte-Carlo SBM" ("Dreams, from the Société des Bains de Mer to Monte-Carlo SBM") will tell the story of the SBM and reveal treasures from its archives.

A special weekend awaits visitors on 5, 6 and 7 July, with the opening of the summer season.  The Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Season will begin with a concert by Rod Stewart.

Also on 5 July, the Opéra Garnier is hosting an exceptional concert with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and surprise guests, and there will be a private view of the exhibition "Dangerous Luxury" at the Sporting d'Hiver.  The renowned Brazilian designers Fernando and Umberto Campana will unveil this exhibition, which was created especially for the Monte-Carlo SBM.  

Finally, there will also be an open-air cinema on the Casino terraces throughout the summer.  Each day, there will be a screening of "Monte-Carlo fait son cinema," a compilation of extracts from films made in Monaco.
