Since 1957, the September Insurers' Meeting ("Rendez-Vous de Septembre") has attracted world market leaders in reinsurance – more than 2,700 attended in 2013. The meeting has always been a resounding success. Why?
In late summer, insurers, brokers, senior bankers and lawyers look forward to meeting at what has become a mecca for insurance over the years. Although face-to-face interaction is very important and an opportunity to make useful contacts, the real focus of the event is to debate economic issues that affect the market, and, above all, negotiate the renewal of reinsurance treaties.
The first Congress was held in 1957 on the initiative of the Assurances Générales Accidents insurance company, and attracted 500 experts from 24 countries. Several decades later, this had increased to more than 2,600 people. A real success, due partly to the Principality's involvement.
Even today, Monaco does not have a "national" insurance company. The reinsurers therefore meet in neutral territory.
Moreover, the geographical layout of the Principality, in an area of just 2km,2 means that delegates can travel to their many meeting points … on foot! This is a real luxury, especially as Monaco is considered one of the safest places in the world.
Finally, the whole of the Principality is flying the flag for this event. There are all kinds of meeting places throughout the country, from the Casino terrace to the Avenue de Monte-Carlo. These "pop-up" meeting places are conducive to business discussions.
Personalised marquees, which offer their occupants a special kind of visibility are available, and can also be used for cocktail parties and evening events. An original idea … to copy!
