16th Mondial du Théâtre Festival in Monaco

World Amateur Theatre Festival, 21–30 August 2017

This cultural event was established in 1957 by members of the Studio de Monaco who decided, with support from the Monegasque Government, to collaborate with the newly formed International Amateur Theatre Association (IATA).

This year, 24 countries from several continents will present their performances in their own national languages and compare theatrical practices.

The performances will take place in the Principality’s most beautiful auditoriums: the Salle Garnier, the Variety Theatre and the Théâtre Princesse Grace.

Each country will perform twice over two consecutive days, with performances beginning at 6 pm. Three countries will be featured every evening, with a 30-minute interval between them to allow for preparations and setting up of the stage set and props.

The Mondial du Théâtre Festival is accessible to all. Visitors attending the Festival will be able to discover the performances, and take part in workshops and colloquia in Monaco’s Rainier III Auditorium.

In addition to the performances, workshops and colloquia, the Festival is also about the day-to-day experiences of the 24 companies, the organisers, the volunteers and everyone else involved as they live together, fully immersed for a period of 10 days in their shared passion for the theatre. To bring them all together, a true meeting place has been created. Known as the “Village”, it includes the Buffeteria, the Club, the Bar, the Shop and the Photo Stand, where visitors can purchase photographs and DVDs of the performances.
