Exhibition « du Japon à Monaco »

Tetsuei Nakamura and Toshiharu Tsuzuki will present their work from 23 September to 7 October 2014

Tetsuei Nakamura is a Japanese artist born in 1960 in Tokyo. His rich career began in 1979 with an award from the Pacific Art Society Exhibition. He then moved to Paris and continued his studies at L'Atelier de la Grande Chaumière. He met Toshimitsu Imaï with
whom he became friends.

When he discovers the pigments used by the Japanese ancestral painters such as Ogata Korin and Tawaraya Sotatsu, he adopts the traditional painting while maintaining a strong personal vision. Thanks to a stylized shape and generous and vibrant colors, his work
can be viewed as part of the Japanese decorative tradition.

Tetsuei Nakamura creates murals for many public and private institutions. Thus, he decorated the walls of Hieizan Enryakuji, a Japanese temple registered as a Wolrd Heritage Site by UNESCO.

During this exhibition, Tetsuei Nakamura will present his most recent artworks, created especially for the Carré Doré Gallery.

In the second hall of the Gallery, we present the work of Toshiharu Tsuzuki. Born in 1977 in Nagoya, he won his qualifications by teaching the art of preserved flower arrangement. He won many awards in Japan. During this exhibition, he will present wooden boxes covered by antique cloth, mainly from the Edo period. Various ornaments are added to the clothes, like metal fittings.

Two artists, two different styles, but with one thing in common : the respect and the reinforcement of the Japanese identity.
