"Francis Bacon, Monaco and French Culture" at a Special Price

The Grimaldi Forum Monaco is devoting its 2016 summer exhibition (from 2 July to 4 September) to Francis Bacon, Monaco and French Culture. The exhibition is curated by Martin Harrison, author of the Catalogue Raisonné of Francis Bacon's work.

More than sixty works will be on display at this exhibition, which is one of the most ambitious projects on the subject of this artist for a long time.

The Grimaldi Forum is inviting the public to discover the work of Francis Bacon from a different angle – the influence of French culture and his period in Monaco, where he lived on several occasions from 1946.

Francis Bacon's Final Painting will be on Show at the Grimaldi Forum

At its summer exhibition, from 2 July to 4 September, the Grimaldi Forum will be exhibiting Francis Bacon's last painting.

One of the main attractions of the Grimaldi Forum's major summer exhibition, which this year is devoted to the renowned English artist Francis Bacon, will undoubtedly be the last picture the artist painted, dating from 1991, a year before his death.  The painting will be on show to the public for the first time between 2 July and 4 September.

"Study of a Bull" depicts a bull in black and white, with erased areas, in a cloud of dust.  The painting had remained undiscovered in London for more than 20 years until it was found by Martin Harrison, the curator of the exhibition.

Atelier virtuel pour l'exposition Francis Bacon à Monaco

Le Grimaldi Forum organisera un atelier du 4 au 15 juillet 2016.

Après le succès du dispositif « My Touch Gallery » à l’occasion de l’exposition « De Chagall à Malévitch, la révolution des avant-gardes » (été 2015), le Grimaldi Forum Monaco renoue avec l’innovation numérique et propose un dispositif participatif original en parallèle de l’exposition « Francis Bacon, Monaco et la culture française ».

L’idée est donc née de proposer aux visiteurs une expérience de visite interactive et ludique en lien avec cet univers et de participer à une œuvre collective rendant hommage au processus créatif de l’artiste qui considérait les photographies comme des « déclencheurs d’idées ». 
  
Les visiteurs seront invités à laisser une trace de leurs propres inspirations dans l’atelier éphémère en partageant leurs images (portraits prisin situ grâce à une cabine photomaton numérique ou images issues de la galerie photo de leur smartphone), transformées pour l’occasion à la manière des documents accumulés par Bacon dans son studio (polaroïd, vieilles cartes postales, pages de magazines déchirées, planche contact, photo jaunie, etc.). 

Grâce à une table tactile multi-utilisateurs, les images validées par les participants seront vidéo projetées sur les murs de l’atelier éphémère, se juxtaposant et s’empilant au fur et à mesure de l’été jusqu’à saturer totalement l’espace et prendre des airs de capharnaüm à l’instar du mythique atelier de Reece Mews.

A Focus on Francis Bacon for the Grimaldi Forum Monaco's Major Summer Exhibition

From 2 July to 4 September 2016, the Grimaldi Forum will be devoting its summer exhibition to Francis Bacon

This exhibition, which will feature more than sixty works, is one of the most ambitious projects on the subject of this artist for a long time.

The Grimaldi Forum is inviting the public to discover the work of Francis Bacon from a different angle – the influence of French culture and his Monegasque period.  Some of his major triptychs, which are among the artist's most important works, will therefore be on show, as well as other less-known works, grouped together by themes and making reference, directly or indirectly, to France and Monaco.

One of the special characteristics of this exhibition is to offer a fresh perspective on the great masters who inspired Bacon - Giacometti, Léger, Lurçat, Michaux, Soutine, Toulouse-Lautrec, etc.

This exhibition is also the first major event organised under the aegis of the recently formed Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation, which was inaugurated in Monaco on 28 October 2014 (the anniversary of the artist's birth) by H.S.H. Prince Albert II.  This private, non-profit-making association is the only foundation in the world dedicated to the artist.  Its mission is to promote a better understanding of Francis Bacon's work, life and working methods, with a particular focus on the period when the painter lived and worked in Monaco and in France.

The Foundation supports new research into painting, sponsors emerging artists, organises exhibitions and seminars on Bacon's work in partnership with local and international institutions and funds projects associated with the artist.
