There are some unmissable places to visit in the Principality of Monaco – The Princely Palace

The Principality only measures 2km² - a distinct advantage for its visitors, who can optimize the time available for a tour around it on foot or by bus.

You can't come to Monaco without seeing its Palace, the official residence of the Princes of Monaco since 1927.  It overlooks the Mediterranean at a height of 60 metres and is the heart and soul of the Principality.

The State Apartments are open for visits for part of the year.  Their origins go back to the beginning of the XIIIth century, to 1215.  Following successive transformations, the former Genoese fortress became a lavish residence in the XVIIth century, characteristic of those of the Grand Siècle, the reign of Louis XIV.

The Hercules Gallery, the Mirror Gallery, the Red Room, the Yellow Room or the Louis XV Room, the Officers' Room or the Blue Room, which is used for official receptions, as well as the Throne Room, transport visitors into a world of rich artistic decoration.  An uninterrupted suite of wonderful floors continues from room to room, made of marble inlay bearing the monogram of Prince Rainier III.  The carefully chosen, varied furniture includes François 1st cabinets and furniture in the Florentine or Boulle styles.  The walls are decorated with gold and sumptuous hangings and figured or damask silks in delicate or deep tones.  Numerous paintings complete this Princely decor.
