Special Weekend Event on 5 and 6 July 2013 in Monte-Carlo

To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Monte-Carlo SBM is offering a "Festival of the Senses"

For one night, Monte-Carlo SBM will transform the Place du Casino into a "pop up" garden and create a weekend festival for the senses.

On Friday 5 July, the Place du Casino will be transformed into a Mediterranean garden, with grass, vines and olive trees, beautifully designed by landscape architect Jean Mus.  Chef Alain Ducasse will add his own personal touch – with the help of the Group's chefs, he will create an original "Dîner sur l’Herbe," ("Dinner on the Lawn"), a nod to the painting "Luncheon on the Grass" by Edouard Manet, a masterpiece painted in the same year as the founding of the Société des Bains de Mer.

The evening will continue with an eclectic, unique concert at the Opera, which was inaugurated in 1879.  The Société des Bains de Mer has invited the prestigious Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra for the occasion, with Lang Lang, virtuoso pianist par excellence, Dame Shirley Bassey and Jamie Cullum, a talented pianist whose style is a blend of Jazz and Pop.

To bring the festivities to a close, the pop up garden will extend behind the terraces of the Casino with an original film, "Monte-Carlo fait son cinema," a compilation of clips of films made in Monte-Carlo, created with students from the Factory cinema school.  This trip back in time through the audiovisual history of the cinema in Monaco will be shown every evening during the summer.

"When the Opera becomes a Garden" is the theme of an installation by musician and composer Michel Redolfi.  Throughout the summer, he will invite the public to a magical musical garden in front of the Monte-Carlo Opera.  A terrace with sound-emitting armchairs will offer a sensory, acoustic listening experience.

On Saturday 6 July, the public will also be able to see a Fernando & Humberto Campana exhibition.  The exhibition will run until 20 July at the Sporting d'Hiver.

Guest of honour Rod Stewart will open the festivities of the Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival on Saturday 6 July with a performance in the Salle des Etoiles, following a gala dinner.

"Dangerous Luxury" – A New Exhibition by the Campana Brothers in Monaco

These two leading contemporary Brazilian artists have devoted their exhibition to the Principality as part of the 150th anniversary of the Groupe Monte-Carlo SBM

The "Dangerous Luxury" exhibition invites the public to reflect on the concept of luxury and how a commonplace, everyday object can be transformed into a luxury item.

To achieve this, the Campana Brothers combine precious materials such as diamonds, leather and bronze with natural materials, such as bamboo, incorporating animal themes, traditional techniques and Roman Baroque-style ornamentation

In these new works, they focus on natural materials from the Brazilian decorative tradition and fine materials from European culture.

Along with these new works, a selection of furniture from the Brazilian Baroque Collection will also be on show.  This was previously exhibited at the Palazzo Pamphili in Rome (May – June 2011) and the Musée Des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (September 2012 – February 2013).

Exhibition of Works by Laurence Jenkell in Monaco

There'll be sweets in the Square Beaumarchais and the Sporting Monte-Carlo from 8 July to 19 August!

Laurence Jenkell lives and works in Vallauris, in the Alpes-Maritimes.  Self-taught, she began working as an artist on her own, in the mid 1990s.

Gradually, her artistic research led her to try different techniques such as inclusions, dripping techniques, heating and moulding.

After numerous experiments with Plexiglas she became skilled at using and controlling the material.  She developed a wrapping and twisting technique, enabling her to create sculptures in the shape of sweets, an idea she had been obsessed with for many years.

Laurence Jenkell's unique work is on display in Monaco from 8 July to 19 August 2013 in the following establishments of the Groupe Monte-Carlo SBM:

- Square Beaumarchais Hôtel Hermitage - Bonbon Summer Time (Summer Time Sweet) 2 m in Plexiglas and Bonbon Bronze au patine verte (Bronze Sweet with a Green Patina), 2.30 m.

- Hall of the Sporting MC:  Bonbon Chromo Réglisse (Liquorice Chromo Sweet) (Plexiglas) 2.30 m

- Entrance of the Sporting MC:  Bonbon Blanc (White Sweet) for the 150th anniversary of the SBM (Plexiglas), 2.20 m

For the 150th anniversary of the Société des Bains de Mer, the artist has personalised a work on the theme of this celebration.

Chef Alain Ducasse is adding his own personal touch in this anniversary year, with surprises at the SBM's various establishments, in association with the Group's chefs.  There's an opportunity to discover some amazing wines, with tastings by the glass of a selection of 150 Bordeaux grand crus.

Amid the fabulous décor of the Grill, on the top floor of the Hôtel de Paris, with its opening roof and a 180° panoramic view of the Mediterranean, the 150th Anniversary Menu offers a musical accompaniment to this restaurant's most iconic dishes.
