St. Devota's Day: 27 January in Monaco

The Feast Day of St. Devota, patron saint of Monaco and the Royal Family, is celebrated on 27 January

St. Devota is the patron saint of the Principality of Monaco, the Royal Family and the Archdiocese of Monaco, and is also the patron saint of Corsica.

In the Principality of Monaco, the Roman Catholic apostolic religion is the State religion, and St. Devota has always been closely linked to the history of this country and its traditions.

This attachment and devotion to the Saint are profoundly felt and have existed for a long time, not only in Monaco, but also in Corsica.

ST. DEVOTA'S DAY, 27 January:
At 6 p.m., the faithful are invited to gather on the Quai Albert Ier to watch the arrival of the symbolic boat and the welcoming of the relics.  There will then be a procession to St. Devota's Church.

The Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will be followed by the burning of the symbolic boat in memory of St. Devota by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and the Royal Family.

The evening will close with a fireworks display over the waters of the Port of Monaco, opposite the mouth of the Gaumates Valley, where the long history of St. Devota and the Monegasque people first began.  The display can be watched from the Avenue d'Ostende and the forecourt of the Princess Grace Theatre.
