A Tristar Weekend in Monaco

Tristar Monaco will take place on 1 and 2 September

It's a real sporting challenge – 100 km of cycling, 1 km of swimming and 10 km of running - and the most enjoyable kind of competition, for teams of up to ten people from businesses, for families or just with friends.

Athletes have ranked Tristar Monaco among the 14 most exotic and unique triathlons in the world, according to an American web site that specialises in listing Triathlons internationally (www.trimapper.com).

The exceptional setting of the Côte d'Azur and most of all of Monaco, the second smallest independent State in the world, which is hosting this competition, have helped to make this event an unmissable date on the sporting calendar.

The Tristar village, with its various stands, will appeal to families – they can learn about the environment thanks to 4vita, who are supporting the triathlon and promoting the idea of a "green" event, in cooperation with the Prince Albert II Foundation, which will be measuring the event's carbon footprint.

The Winners of the Monaco 2012 TriStar111

Nicknamed the Formula 1 of Triathlons, the Monaco TriStar111 has again kept its promises from the 3rd competition. Almost 800 athletes took part in this high-level 111-km challenge, which is comprised of swimming, cycling and running.

The third TriStar Monaco took place last Sunday, 2 September.  After starting orders at the Larvotto Beach in Monaco, given by HSH Prince Albert II, the triathletes set off on a 111-km route – 1 km of swimming, 100 km of cycling and 10 km of running – in the surrounding countryside and on the Formula 1 circuit in the Principality.

D’Aquino and Hütthaler – conquerors of TriStar111 Monaco 2012

Among the male athletes, the Italian Andrea d’Aquino, who was taking part in TriStar Monaco for the first time, took first place on the podium with 3 hours 43'04", followed by the Monegasque athlete Hervé Banti.
"It was my first TriStar and I won it.  Marceau, Chabaud, Casadei, Passuello, Moldan, Banti – all these very experienced athletes – finishing before them and winning has made me so happy!" declared Andrea d'Aquino, just after the race.

As for the women's section, the Austrian Lisa Hütthaler won her third victory this year in a TriStar, in 4 hours 21'09". "I'm very proud of this victory in Monaco.  The cycling route was really difficult, and the running in Monaco, on the same roads as the Formula 1, it's incredible!  It's my 29th birthday today, and it was a wonderful present!  I was determined to win, but I didn't know my rivals, so I gave it my all right from the start.  I won the Kufstein TriStar and the Estonia TriStar, and winning a third time this year is simply fantastic."

Famous sportspeople and celebrities at the TriStar111

Among the athletes competing in the race were several celebrities … including drivers Lucas Di Grassi, Maro Engel et Gilles Panizzi, cyclists Christophe Agnolutto and Geoffroy Lequatre, former French rugby players Sébastian Viars and Stéphane Ougier and stars such as Marc Toesca and Paul Belmondo.
