An unexpected work of art as a prelude to the reopening of the New National Museum

It’s a sign of the times – as a prelude to the Formula 1 Grand Prix and the reopening of the New National Museum of Monaco (NNMM)/Villa Sauber in June 2010, Bertrand Lavier’s 308 GTS has just been installed in the establishment’s former garage at 17, Avenue Princesse Grace.

It was acquired by the NNMM in 2009, and thanks to a refurbishment of the garage with the creation of an exhibition window, made possible by sponsorship by the “Royale” company, it can be admired, by day and by night, behind the window that protects it from art lovers and car lovers …

Bertrand Lavier:  Bertrand Lavier is a French artist whose works oscillate between painting and sculpture.  He invites us to look differently at our immediate environment.  He questions the status of objects by means of assembling, framing, confrontation, superimposing and a new relationship between the sculpture and the plinth and creates unexpected, and sometimes incongruous, encounters.
