A Major Event in Monaco - Marion Cotillard in the Role of Joan of Arc!

Marion Cotillard will star as the famous "Maid of Orleans" on stage at the Rainier III Auditorium in Monaco on Sunday 8 February 2015

Written by Arthur Honegger in 1935 and first performed in Basel, Switzerland in 1938, "Joan of Arc at the Stake" is a dramatic oratorio in 11 scenes.  It depicts the last moments in the life of the "Maid of Orleans."

The spoken roles are enacted by Marion Cotillard and two members of the Comédie Française, Eric Genovèse (Father Dominic) and Christian Gonon (Narrator), while the sung roles are performed by the Choir of the Orchestra of Paris and renowned soloists Thomas Blondelle and Steven Humes.  There are also three celestial characters - Catherine (Faith Sherman, contralto) Marguerite (Simone Osborne, soprano), whose voices inspired Joan, and the Virgin (Anne-Catherine Gillet, soprano).

Internationally renowned actress Marion Cotillard first performed this work in Orleans in 2005, then with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra in 2012.  She is known for the intensity of her roles (in 2008, she was awarded an Oscar for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in the film "La Vie en Rose" (French title "La Môme").  Marion Cotillard will perform with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra for a unique concert, conducted by Kazuki Yamada, principal guest conductor of Monaco's Philharmonic Orchestra.
