A Tribute to Jean-Pierre Beltoise at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix

Anthony Beltoise will pay homage to his father, racing driver Jean-Pierre Beltoise, by taking part in the 2016 Historic Grand Prix at the wheel of a MATRA MS 120.

Anthony Beltoise, two-times French GT champion and three-times winner of the Porsche Carrera Cup France will pay tribute to his father, Jean-Pierre, at the tenth Monaco Historic Grand Prix.

From 13 to 15 May 2016, the French driver will take to the racetrack in a MATRA MS 120 that is identical to the one his father drove in the 1970 season of the Formula 1 World Championship.

Beltoise, Matra, Monaco – three names that have made their mark on the world of motor racing.  Three names that will be reunited again in a few weeks' time.

To honour the memory of his father, Anthony Beltoise wanted to take part in the 10th Monaco Historic Grand Prix in the MATRA MS 120 driven by Jean-Pierre Beltoise in 13 Formula 1 Grand Prix races in 1970.

At the time, the French champion, who was racing for the Matra Elf team, had scored 16 points and finished in 9th place.  In the Principality, he had started from the third row of the grid, rank six, on the starting grid, but then had to withdraw.  In the bucket seat of the single-seater racing car powered by the V12 Matra, Anthony Beltoise will therefore be rewriting a chapter of history - history in the course of which Jean-Pierre Beltoise won his only F1 victory in Monaco in 1972, and in which the destinies of his father and Matra were linked for several seasons – in F1, from 1966 to 1971, in a total of 46 Grand Prix.

"My father was an example for me.  He was strong, courageous and stubborn, but also humble and wise.  His life as a racing driver, his career and his exploits inspired me to live with the same passion, like many other people," Anthony Beltoise confides.  "I naturally wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a racing driver, which I have been for more than 20 years now.  It's thanks to him, and I wanted to pay tribute to him – Monaco and Matra soon seemed the obvious choice.  It will be very moving to drive that car on such a legendary circuit, which was full of meaning for my father and symbolic for those close to him."
