As part of Russian Year in Monaco, Anthéa Sogno is presenting "The Marriage Proposal" and "The Bear"
Hilarious, moving, modern and spirited comedy on the age-old differences between men and women, which make it difficult for them to understand each other and live together.
"The Marriage Proposal" ("La Demande en Mariage") and "The Bear" ("L'Ours") (performed in French) are two small comic masterpieces of Russian theatre. They depict Man in all his failings – greed, pettiness, rage and an inability to interact with others.
Chekhov portrays the weakness of the human soul with humour and tenderness through his hopelessly human characters; at the same time, they are explosive, cruel, enthusiastic, clumsy and ridiculous, relentlessly pursuing the quest for happiness.
