Grisha Bruskin is Exhibiting His Work for Russian Year in Monaco

The Marlborough Gallery is showing "H-Hour" from 18 December 2014 to 6 March 2015

As part of Russian Year in Monaco, the Marlborough Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition by Russian painter and sculptor Grisha Bruskin.  This is the Gallery's second solo exhibition by this artist, who was awarded the prestigious Kandinsky prize for visual art in Russia in 2012.

The exhibition presents two significant projects from Grisha Bruskin's work – firstly, H-Hour, 2008-2012, which was exhibited at the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow in 2012 and is comprised of around 40 sculptures in white-painted bronze, shown in a shadowy setting designed by the artist.

H-Hour examines the myth of the enemy in a very general sense, without referring to a specific historical or geographical location - the hostile State, the class enemy, the unconscious as an enemy, the other, time, Chronos and death, among others.

The second part of the exhibition is devoted to the Archaeologist’s Collection – on the one hand, a group of white-painted bronze sculptures from 2001-2003 of various sizes, presented like archaeological finds and accompanied by a series of photos.  On the other, eight large bronze sculptures dating from 2008 to 2009, on a human scale, fragmented, representing the same characters as the small sculptures in painted bronze, such as the athlete, the young sailor and the border guards.

Grisha Bruskin buried these sculptures in Italy for several months so they would take on the patina of sculptures from a lost civilisation that have just been discovered.
