DALE CHIHULY AT THE MARLBOROUGH GALLERY MONACO
June 27- September 6, 2002
The Marlborough Monaco is pleased to present a selection of contemporary glass sculptures and drawings by the famed American artist Dale Chihuly. Longtime known for his extraordinary glass working ability, Chihuly combines ancient Venetian techniques with creative passion to produce truly unique masterpieces. Born in 1942 in Tacoma, Washington, Chihuly was introduced to glass working as an interior decorating student at the University of Washington. In 1968, Chihuly received a Fulbright scholarship to work at the Venini factory in Venice. It was there that he observed ancient glass blowing techniques. In 1971, Chihuly co-founded the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington. With this international glass center, Chihuly was one of the first to reacquaint the art world with glass as a true art form. Chihuly's works are exhibited in 200 museums around the globe. He has received numerous distinctions including seven honorary degrees and scholarships from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Marlborough Monaco exhibit will feature works from Chihuly's Baskets, Macchia, Seaforms, Persians, and Chandeliers series. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday, 11AM- 6PM, except for holidays. Catalogues are available at the gallery.
