“MAKING MUSIC IN MONACO” BACK TO U.S. RADIO

 

Annual Program to Include

Live Broadcast From the Principality


NEW YORK - February 21, 2002 - This spring, classical music lovers across America need only turn on their radio to enjoy the legendary culture of the Principality of Monaco. “Making Music in Monaco,” the popular radio series launched by the Monaco Government Tourist Office and WQXR-FM New York, is returning to radio stations in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston and Chicago.

This year’s program will feature an added bonus- a live broadcast from Monaco on April 14, 2002 and chances for listeners to win free trips to Monaco. Each hour-long classical music program features performers and composers with ties, present or past, to the Principality of Monaco. The series spotlights the performers appearing in Monaco this season, as well as a retrospective of the Principality’s musical legacy through noted recordings. The series is timed to coincide with the annual Monaco Spring Arts Festival, an event that attracts some of the world’s biggest names in performing arts.

Highlights this year will include interviews with guest singers Felicity Lott and Laurence Foster and guest conductors Walter Weller, Rafael Fruhbeck De Burgos and Marek Janowski. Premiering March 9, 2002 in New York on WQXR 96.3FM, the program will continue for 14 weeks in New York and Los Angeles while airing for ten weeks in Dallas, Houston and Chicago. This year's program will also feature a live broadcast from Monaco on April 14, 2002, available in New York on WQXR 96.3FM and worldwide on www.wqxr.com. Be sure to tune in as there will be chances for listeners to win free trips to Monaco.

The show, hosted by WQXR President Tom Bartunek, will feature the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with soloists Cheryl Studer, Birgit Remmert, Christian Elsner and Franz Josef Selig under the artistic direction of Monaco’s own Marek Janowski. Listeners will have the opportunity to win a free trip to Monaco.
