Special Film Screening for the 2014 Monaco Dance Forum

Monaco Audiovisual Archives are showing the film "Serge Lifar Musagète" by Dominique Delouche on 21 December 2014 at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco

Since the screening of "Chaussons rouges" ("Red Shoes") in 2002 at the Grimaldi Forum, the Archives have regularly participated in the Monaco Dance Forum festival, organised by the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, by presenting films that illustrate the longstanding links and influences between dance and cinema.

The documentary film "Serge Lifar Musagète" (meaning "Serge Lifar, leader of the Muses") centres on the thirty years Serge Lifar spent at the Paris Opera and the followers he trained there.  It celebrates the centenary of one of the most important figures in 20th century dance.

A former dancer with the Ballet Russes, Serge Lifar was inspired by his experience of working with Diaghilev; Lifar challenged the academic approach of the Paris Opera, where he was a ballet master for almost thirty years from 1930 to 1958.
