Works by the Painter Ahmet Günestekin in Monaco

The Marlborough Gallery is presenting an exhibition entitled "Heir of the Solar Disc" ("L'Héritier du disque Solaire") from 19 September to 14 November 2014

For the first time in Monaco, the Marlborough Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition by the painter Ahmet Günestekin, who is from Turkey.

The exhibition consists of thirty or so recent works, which are being shown for the first time and were created especially for the exhibition.  They include a large-format work, "The Four Seasons of Grimaldi," illustrating the history of Monaco.

Ahmet Günestekin creates optical works that are vibrant and full of light.  The solar disc is one of his recurrent themes.

Coloured geometric shapes can be seen in the foreground, while in the background, as the eye gradually grows accustomed to the painting, a figure, a character or an animal is revealed, illustrating the legends of his country, of Mesopotamia, Anatolia and the great divinities of Greek mythology.

Ahmet Günestekin is a self-taught artist.  He has developed an astonishing, very precise technique that creates a 3D impression;  the shapes and motifs seem to emerge from the painting.  The fairly rich texture of his paintings is so detailed and finely worked that it gives the impression of being woven, reinforcing his painting.
