Thanks to its skills in biodiversity and biology, and in particular its skills in marine biomineralisation and symbiosis since 1990, the C.S.M. has made important discoveries by studying the function of coralline ecosystems (tropical and Mediterranean) in regards to global climatic changes.

Today, Monaco is placed 8th in the worlds publication numbers in the field of coralline physiology, and the C.S.M. is the second biggest laboratory dedicated to corals in the world, right behind the Australian Institute of Marine Science.
