 CHILDREN'S
ART CONTEST - ANNOUNCING THE WINNERS!!
The legacy of Princess Grace of Monaco
continues...

Princess Grace was committed
to promoting the welfare and well-being of the world's children
and personally instigated and supported worthwhile projects locally
and around the world. She presided over many charitable events to
help raise funds and awareness of children's issues, but Her greatest
joy came from being in the company of children. In 1966, She helped
create Monaco's first daycare center and was a frequent visitor
(pictured above in 1977).

More than 100 entries
submitted from across the United States were received in this special
art contest for children aged 8 to 12 who were invited to create
a 9” by 12” piece of artwork on the subject of how Princess Grace
inspires them.
The Grand Prize winner
is Anna, aged 12, from New York City whose brilliant combination
black-and-white pencil etching with colored-pen drawing juxtaposes
a young Grace Kelly on the film set of Dial M For Murder with a
regal Princess Grace in a formal, official setting.
Anna, a 7th grade student,
wins a trip to the Principality of Monaco with a parent or legal
guardian to view this summer’s The Grace Kelly Years exhibition
at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco (open from July 12 - September 23).
They will fly courtesy of SWISS International Air Lines and stay
for three nights at the four-star deluxe Fairmont Monte Carlo.
The second prize winner,
eight-year-old Ava, coincidentally from Princess Grace’s home state
of Pennsylvania, produced a thoughtful scene incorporating several
of Princess Grace’s favourite past-times – flowers and ballet in
a pressed floral arrangement. In her outstanding pencil-and-floral-submission,
Ava used pansies and other flowers to depict ballerinas and a princess-figure
holding a small bouquet. Ava will receive four complimentary tickets
to attend the opening reception of Grace, Princess of Monaco
exhibition to be held at Sotheby's from October 15 - 26 in New York
City.
“The variety of ideas
and attention to detail in the entries we received was quite astounding,”
said Hon. Maguy Maccario-Doyle, Consul General of Monaco and one
of the contest judges.
“There were so many wonderful
aspects of Princess Grace’s personality, her life and career that
were highlighted by the children. It was clear that all the entries
were carefully and thoughtfully produced and many were truly inspired,”
she said.
The other judges were
Mr. James Niven, vice chairman of Sotheby’s, son of legendary actor
David Niven and a longtime family friend of the Princess; Hon. John
Lehman, Chairman of the Princess Grace Foundation-USA and Ms. Pamela
Fiori, editor-in-chief of Town & Country magazine.
The teachers of the winning
students will receive a copy of Grace Kelly – A Life in Pictures
by Pierre-Henri Verlhac (2007).
This contest
was organized with the support of the Princess Grace Foundation
- USA, Swiss International Air Lines and the Fairmont Monte Carlo.
