On 20 May in the Principality - A chance to meet Thierry Boutsen, member of the Monaco Economic Development Chamber, for whom China represents an important opportunity
When Thierry BOUTSEN moved to Monaco in 1984, he never imagined that, 30 years later, he would be managing the Boutsen Aviation company.
A former Formula 1 driver, Thierry BOUTSEN has participated in around 160 Formula 1 Grand Prix. At the end of the 1990s he swapped his leather overalls for an elegant high-class salesman's suit, with a briefcase full of brochures for jets and airliners that he had personalised down to the last detail.
"Next week we are delivering an Airbus A320 that we have fitted out completely. Since the company was set up in 1999 we have sold 190 planes," he stated. Why is he now looking to China? "Until now, business aviation was subject to complex regulations that made any business impossible. Things have been changing for some time, and we will see spectacular development in this sector. In a country that has 106 dollar billionaires (the number of billionaires has multiplied by seven in one year, and the richest is only 26 years old), we must position ourselves in this niche market. Monaco's pavilion here in Shanghai for Expo 2010 is an excellent way of showing what Monaco has to offer, both in tourism and economically."
