38th Monte-Carlo Circus Festival

The great circus families will meet in the Fontvieille Big Top from 16 to 23 January 2014

The Organisation Committee of the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival is putting the finishing touches to the 38th Festival, which will take place from 16 to 26 January 2014, and the 3rd New Generation competition (1 and 2 February 2014).

When Prince Rainer III founded the Festival in 1974, he wanted to bring back the glamour to the art of the circus, helping the great circus families who have been passing on their special skills and knowledge from generation to generation.

Forty years on, His daughter, H.S.H. Princess Stephanie, President of the Organisation Committee, continues to be inspired by the original spirit of the Festival and has invited the Faltyny family from the Czech Republic (5th generation), who will perform three acts in the circus ring:

- acrobatics on a monocycle, which seem to defy the laws of balance with disconcerting ease;
·  group juggling (five 4th and 5th generation artists) with clubs;
·  Balancing on asymmetrical ladders and juggling with luminous cubes.

The children of the Faltyny family have been taught the various circus skills from a very early age, making such a variety of different acts possible.

Angelo Munoz and his daughter Conchi – Portugal – (5th generation) will present two acts:
- A clown act, the famous "entrance of the sweets"

- An act with sea lions, in which these cheeky mammals obviously enjoy working with their trainer.

Finally, Tom Dieck Junior – Germany – (4e generation) will enter the ring in the Fontvieille Big Top with his group of mixed wild big cats.

The audience will be delighted by the beauty of these animals, one of the main attractions of this act, which includes two ligers (a cross between a tiger and a lion), an apricot-coloured tiger and a white male lion.
