Diana Damrau in Concert in Monaco

The Bel Canto Gala will take place at the Rainier III Auditorium on Friday 10 April 2015. It will feature soprano Diana Damrau, conducted by Jacques Lacombe

Diana Damrau was born in Günzburg, Bavaria.  She made a sensational debut at Covent Garden in London in 2003 in the role of Queen of the Night, and then at the Metropolitan, New York in 2005 as Zerbinetta.

She is equally happy performing Italian opera (as Lucia, Gilda, Oscar and Linda) and French opera (Olympia, Leila and Manon) as roles from the German repertoire (such as Sophie, the Queen of the Night, Pamina and Zerbinetta).

On 7 December 2013, on the occasion of Verdi's bicentenary, she played Violetta Valery at La Scala in Milan.  She received a standing ovation for her stylish, nuanced performance.

Audiences and critics admire her ease in the highest range, her impeccable virtuosity and the timbre of her voice, which is both clear and yet powerful enough to enable her to sing operatic roles.

Her successful recordings with DHM, Virgin Classics and EMI have brought her international fame.

This will be her first performance in Monaco with a programme devoted to romantic bel canto and a repertoire that is both spectacular and refined.

The programme will feature works by Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi, Puccini and others.
