Entertainment for the Festive Season in Monaco

As every year since 2000, Monaco City Hall is organising entertainment for Christmas and the New Year on the Port

Entertainment for the city is an integral part and a priority of the City Hall's basic mission.  The Christmas Village is one of the major events every year, with the skating rink.  A total of 49 chalets offering food and other items, a big wheel and a roundabout can be found on the Port again this year.  All kinds of temptations are on offer!

The Christmas Village will be held from Friday 2 December to Monday 2 January.  The theme this year will be "Christmas Treats," with decor featuring a giant Christmas tree created entirely from "sweets" in a panorama representing confectionery, barley sugar, spice bread and cakes … as well as automata, such as reindeer and Father Christmas's elves, transforming the Village into a magical place that children will love and that will transport adults back to their childhood.

For more than a month, original activities will be on offer:  walks, workshops for children, shops, attractions and decorations will be available at the iconic venue of the Port of Monaco.

The open air skating rink at the swimming pool of the Rainier III Outdoor Swimming Stadium will be open to the public from 2 December to 26 February, with a surface area of almost 1,000 m².  To complete the "leisure" activities, the skating rink is offering free entertainment on ice (subject to the availability of places).
The festive lights, which were installed throughout the Principality in October to fit in with a busy schedule, were switched on by the youngest members of the security and care staff, along with the Mayor, Georges Marsan, on Friday 25 November at 6 p.m. in the Place d'Armes.

Note also that on 31 December 2016, the Christmas Village and skating rink will be open until 2 a.m.   There will be no DJ evening or fireworks in the Port of Monaco.

For this 17th Christmas Village, Monaco City Hall is increasing security measures.  Access to the Christmas Village will be via three entry points situated in the upper section of the Quay and two in the lower section. Bags will be inspected by a private security company at each of these entry points.  The walkway and the lift in the Boulevard Albert Ier will not be accessible to the public.
To facilitate access to the Village, Monaco City Hall recommends visitors to bring light bags, to simplify the checks at the entrances.
