Special Weekend Event on 5 and 6 July 2013 in Monte-Carlo
To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Monte-Carlo SBM is offering a "Festival of the Senses"
For one night, Monte-Carlo SBM will transform the Place du Casino into a "pop up" garden and create a weekend festival for the senses.
On Friday 5 July, the Place du Casino will be transformed into a Mediterranean garden, with grass, vines and olive trees, beautifully designed by landscape architect Jean Mus. Chef Alain Ducasse will add his own personal touch – with the help of the Group's chefs, he will create an original "Dîner sur l’Herbe," ("Dinner on the Lawn"), a nod to the painting "Luncheon on the Grass" by Edouard Manet, a masterpiece painted in the same year as the founding of the Société des Bains de Mer.
The evening will continue with an eclectic, unique concert at the Opera, which was inaugurated in 1879. The Société des Bains de Mer has invited the prestigious Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra for the occasion, with Lang Lang, virtuoso pianist par excellence, Dame Shirley Bassey and Jamie Cullum, a talented pianist whose style is a blend of Jazz and Pop.
To bring the festivities to a close, the pop up garden will extend behind the terraces of the Casino with an original film, "Monte-Carlo fait son cinema," a compilation of clips of films made in Monte-Carlo, created with students from the Factory cinema school. This trip back in time through the audiovisual history of the cinema in Monaco will be shown every evening during the summer.
"When the Opera becomes a Garden" is the theme of an installation by musician and composer Michel Redolfi. Throughout the summer, he will invite the public to a magical musical garden in front of the Monte-Carlo Opera. A terrace with sound-emitting armchairs will offer a sensory, acoustic listening experience.
On Saturday 6 July, the public will also be able to see a Fernando & Humberto Campana exhibition. The exhibition will run until 20 July at the Sporting d'Hiver.
Guest of honour Rod Stewart will open the festivities of the Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival on Saturday 6 July with a performance in the Salle des Etoiles, following a gala dinner.
