Contemporary art gets two new homes - with free entry on Sundays - as Monaco welcomes its new National Museum. For decades, the Principality of Monaco has attracted travelers to its enchanting Mediterranean coast by offering celebrated hotels, restaurants and nightlife, world-class cultural and sporting events and historical attractions.
Now art lovers and artists can find another spectacular reason to visit the Principality at the recently opened Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM, the new National Museum) located in two stunning venues: the Villa Paloma and the Villa Sauber.
With a focus on modern, contemporary works of art, these newly re-designed venues will present two expositions annually per venue and will spotlight the cultural, historic and artistic virtues of Principality.
The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM) is open daily from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Entry is free to all under the age of 26 – and from Sunday 2 January 2011, entry will be free on the first Sunday of every month at the Museum’s two venues located at: Villa Paloma, 56 boulevard du Jardin Exotique and Villa Sauber 17 Avenue Princesse Grace.
Through April 20, the Villa Sauber will be staging Looking Up… an exhibition by acclaimed contemporary British-Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare, MBE and on display the Villa Paloma until the end of February is La carte d’après nature, artworks by German sculptor and photographer, Thomas Demand.
"Monaco is a truly international destination with events and attractions covering a range of interests, budgets and tastes,” said Maguy Maccario, consul general and director, North America, Monaco Government Tourist Office.
“With its breathtaking views, legendary hospitality, fine dining, acclaimed cultural offerings and premiere sports events, the magic of the principality continues to enchant guests – and art lovers - from around the world.” (www.nmnm.mc)
