The DTC organised a promotional tour in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on 5 and 6 November 2013
Baku, which is situated on the Caspian Sea, is the largest city in the Caucasus region. It has a population of 5 million inhabitants and although it has a Soviet past, the city currently bears more of a resemblance to Abu Dhabi.
Baku has several 5-star hotels, evidence of its high standing. Azerbaijan is a promising new market, which is growing steadily in the Principality.
This was the context for the Monegasque delegation's visit to Baku. The delegation was comprised of Guillaume Rose, Director of Monaco Tourist and Convention Authority (DTC) and Xavier Ruggeroni, Director of the Fairmont Monte-Carlo / European Regional Director of the Fairmont, who was accompanied by the hotel's chef, Philippe Joannes.
Meetings were held for tourist professionals, journalists and celebrities, who were very impressed with Monaco, as borne out at press events and numerous articles in Azerbaijani publications.
Guillaume Rose took part in the programme Yeni Gun on the public channel ITV: http://en.itv.az.
The Director of Tourism was accompanied by H.E. the Ambassador of France and Philippe Joannes (chef at the Fairmont Monte-Carlo).
A documentary on Monaco was presented, followed by a discussion on the Principality.
