Anette Birch and her daughter Caroline will open their new gallery, the "Galerie Birch Monaco" with the "Artistic Adventure" exhibition from Wednesday 28 June 2017.
The second and third generation of art dealers in this extraordinary family also own the Galerie Birch Copenhagen, a contemporary art gallery.
In 1987, Anette Borge Birch's father, one of the leading art dealers in Europe, was appointed to the rank of Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters for his contribution to the arts in France.
The main focus of this exhibition will be on works by the painter Asger Jorn, one of the founders of the CoBrA movement in Paris in 1948. Mr. Birch was one of the first dealers to discover this artist, and the two Danes remained very good friends until Jorn's death in 1973.
Other artists from the CoBrA movement will also be represented at the opening, including Egill Jacobsen, Pierre Alechinsky and Carl-Henning Pedersen. There will be important works by artists who were associates of Jorn, and subsequently of Birch, including Walasse Ting, Jan Voss and Pinot Gallizio.
The decision to open Galerie Birch Monaco was made 70 years after the founding of the Galerie Birch in Copenhagen by Anette Birch's father. In addition to being the oldest contemporary art gallery in Denmark, the Galerie Birch is also known for its expertise in the most significant Danish and French artists of the post-war era.
