Exhibition on "The Beetles of Monaco and other Insects"

For the first time ever, from 5 June to 31 July 2013, the Exotic Garden is hosting the complete collection of insects recorded in Monaco

This exhibition will enable a wide audience to discover the amazing diversity of types and lifestyles of beetles, by means of illustrated information boards, preserved specimens of insects and models.  Currently, over 350,000 species have been recorded throughout the world and no doubt two or three times more remain to be discovered.  This exhibition also aims to raise visitors' awareness of the importance of protecting this astonishing biodiversity in an urban setting.

Visitors can also find out about the many different relationships between plants and their pollinators via information boards on "pollination, a story of flowers and insects."  They can also admire a collection of the most beautiful butterflies of the Alpes-Maritimes in an educational display.

Monaco's entomological heritage will also be highlighted by the publication of a postage stamp by the Stamp Issuing Office, on sale from 5 June.  The stamp commemorates the discovery of a new species of Curculionidae (weevil), which was found in the underground service areas of the Prince's Palace and named Otiorhynchus (Lixorrhynchus) monoecirupis n.sp.
