A unique stagein the world
During the summer season, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra performs in the Cour d'Honneur of the Prince's Palace.
The idea was born in 1959 under the reign of Prince Rainier III, and revives a tradition of the Grimaldis as protectors of the arts and music in particular, dating back to the 18th century. At that time, the Princes of Monaco "gave music" in the Cour d'Honneur of the Palace for their good people.
The final choice was "Les Concerts du Palais Princier de Monaco".
On the instructions of Prince Rainier III, the Palais departments were given responsibility for organising the concerts and for everything to do with the audience: the entrance, the chairs, the floor, and so on.
Over the years, these concerts have made the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra a household name, and critics rank it among Europe's leading symphony orchestras.
Experience a unique and memorable moment in the legendary residence of the Princes of Monaco, in an exclusive atmosphere.
Introducing the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra
Thanks to its ability to combine tradition and modernity, the Philharmonic Orchestra plays a leading role in the interpretation of symphonic works from the great repertoire, the revival of rare and contemporary works and the creation of opera and choreography. It works in collaboration with the Compagnie des Ballets de Monte-Carlo, the Opera and Printemps des Arts. It also organises film-concerts and presents internationally acclaimed films such as Walt Disney's Fantasia and Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings.
From time to time, the Orchestra travels to take part in major festivals abroad or perform music in the four corners of the world. It is committed to establishing its name as a benchmark international orchestra. Under the presidency of H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra enjoys the support and encouragement of H.S.H. Prince Albert II.
A brief history
An embryonic orchestra was created in 1856. It was gradually enriched by artists from Paris and formed the Orchestre du Nouveau Cercle des Étrangers. The orchestra was renamed the "Orchestre National de l'Opéra de Monte-Carlo" in 1958. It adopted its definitive name in 1980 and has held a prominent place in the international music world ever since.
Autumn 2010 saw the launch of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra's 'OPMC Classics' label. These various recordings have won numerous awards from the music press.
The OPMC's history has been marked by great artistic and musical directors such as Igor Markevitch, Gianluigi Gelmetti and Kazuki Yamada, who has been in charge since 2016.
