Monaco's institutional heritage

Conseil National headquarters

Inaugurated in 2012, the Conseil National headquarters, designed by Monegasque architect Jean-Michel Ughes, features a transparent white facade, a symbol of open democracy. The text of the Constitution appears engraved on its large glass windows. With its 3,640 m2 spread over four floors, this building offers elected representatives a working environment that is both modern and totally rooted in Monegasque architectural identity. It opens its doors to the public during the European Heritage Days, allowing visitors to discover the hemicycle, the Prince Albert I library, the offices of elected representatives and the panoramic terrace.

The Palais de Justice

Located in the immediate vicinity of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-Immaculée de Monaco, the Palais de Justice catches the eye with its elaborate facade and symmetrical double staircase. Erected between 1924 and 1930, on the personal initiative of HSH Prince Louis II, the building is made of marine tuff, a porous stone that gives it its distinctive appearance. Although not open to the public, it is a must-see on any stroll around the Rock.

The Ministry of State

Also located on Place de la Visitation, opposite the Conseil National, the Hotel du Gouvernement is the headquarters of the Ministry of State. Dating from 1894, the building houses the offices of the Minister of State, head of the Monegasque government, as well as the Principality's administrative services. On the forecourt, next to this classically styled building, stands the poetic bronze sculpture La Fontaine aux Oiseaux, the work of artist Jean-Michel Folon.
