Museum of Traditions

To combat the risk of losing national identity, the Comité National des Traditions Monégasques (National Committee for Monegasque Traditions) was created in 1924 by representatives of the old Monegasque families:

- maintaining civil and religious traditions, - preserving and promoting the Monegasque language, - preserving Monegasque heritage.

Civil and religious traditions are maintained. The Monegasque language, although no longer a common language of communication, is taught to young people in Monaco's schools and can be taken as part of the baccalaureate diploma. It is also taught to adults, so that families can recreate the conditions for a return to its everyday use.

In the future, these fundamental missions to maintain the Monegasque identity will be reinforced by another priority that is close to the Committee's heart: the preservation of tangible heritage, thanks to the Musée du Vieux Monaco, but also of intangible heritage, thanks to the dissemination of the Monegasque language and culture via the modern means of the Internet.
