Monaco Audiovisual Institute
The Institute's mission is to take stock of, collect, restore, protect, conserve, distribute and promote: - all sounds and images, still or moving, professional or amateur, relating directly or indirectly to the Principality of Monaco; - all documents relating to this memory; - all films or audiovisual documents in the Institute's possession; - to encourage audiovisual production through projects based on the use of archives. Through these missions, the Institute encourages and raises public awareness of the need for conservation and the use of film as an educational, historical and cultural resource. From the outset, the Institute has pursued a policy of collecting film and audiovisual documents from various Monegasque institutions and private individuals. The collections are essentially made up of documents with a link to the Principality of Monaco, but they also contain other filmed or recorded elements, which are preserved as part of the protection of the international audiovisual heritage. In particular, the Institute preserves and promotes the audiovisual collections of Télé Monte-Carlo and "Monaco info", the Principality's news channel. The institute also collects various items relating to cinema and its history: photographs, posters, periodicals and books, collection material. This collection, known as "non-film", is made up of donations, deposits and acquisitions. Since 1998, under the "Monaco en films" label, the Institute has been distributing the Principality's audiovisual heritage. It also takes part in cultural events such as Printemps des Arts and the Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation, and sometimes collaborates with the New National Museum of Monaco on exhibitions. Since 2004, the Audiovisual Institute has been promoting the art and culture of cinema in Monaco by organising an annual series of screenings called "Les Mardis du Cinéma".
