Princess Grace Irish Library
A prestigious library in the heart of Monaco
Created in 1984 by Prince Rainier III, the Princess Grace Irish Library houses Princess Grace's personal collection. As the granddaughter of an Irish family, she accumulated numerous cultural objects linked to the culture of this country: novels, poetry, manuscripts, sheet music... all rare items that make up the collection of this place devoted to the reading of English-language texts.
A rich cultural programme
Based around annual themes (the Irish diaspora and its cultural impact, for example) and recurring events ( St Patrick's Day and Bloomsday, a tribute to James Joyce's novel Ulysses), the Princess Grace Irish Library organises events throughout the year. Concerts, screenings, theatrical performances and lectures... the library invites its visitors to a wide range of events.
To read, to visit
10-minute tours of the Princess Grace Irish Library are organised by staff from the cultural institution. This is a great way to immerse yourself in the cosy atmosphere of the Monegasque Hotel that houses the library, as you stroll through the rooms decorated with books and portraits of the Prince and Princess of Monaco. The visit ends with a viewing of the documentary Her Name was Grace Kelly , which looks at the many roles played by the Princess, who was a film star, philanthropist, young girl, mother and wife all rolled into one.
Closed on Saturdays and Sundays, in August and between 25 December and 1 January.
