Encountering cetaceans

This is one of the most captivating experiences to be had from Monaco: encountering the cetaceans of the Pelagos Sanctuary, a jewel of marine biodiversity off the coast of the Principality. Two organisations, each with its own approach, offer excursions to this protected area:

• With Monaco Riviera Navigation, head out to sea for a morning of wildlife watching that respects all living creatures. On board the silent Atlantide 2, a sleekly designed electric boat (accessible to people with reduced mobility), this is your chance to encounter dolphins, pilot whales, as well as sea turtles and other pelagic birds… In the heart of this fragile world, the pleasure of sailing blends with that of contemplation.
• With Sustainable Whale Watching, the approach is more scientific. Led by accredited specialists, the excursion forms part of an initiative to raise awareness and promote conservation, in partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. Observation, raising awareness of biodiversity, an introduction to marine science: here, discovery goes hand in hand with commitment.

 Monaco by Sea: a gentle sea experience

To discover the Principality by sea, Monaco Riviera Navigation also offers its ‘Monaco by Sea’ experience: a leisurely 50-minute cruise along the coastline. Aboard the Atlantide 2, as always, you’ll follow the city’s contours, taking in iconic monuments and magnificent sea views, accompanied by a passionate guide. Anecdotes, unusual vantage points, the tranquillity of the cruise: the experience is as peaceful as it is informative. A way to set sail… without quite leaving the city.

A taxi boat for a stylish cruise

For a more intimate getaway, why not opt for the French Riviera? With its vintage charm – polished wood panelling, white upholstery, elegant lines – this vessel from the Monaco Riviera Navigation fleet provides various sea transfers from one point along the Monegasque coastline to another. Furthermore, the French Riviera can be hired privately for one or more hours (maximum of 12 passengers). Perfect for a bespoke crossing, a peaceful cruise or an intimate getaway.

On the programme: a tour of the coastline, an aperitif at sunset, transfers to neighbouring ports or simply a cruise for the pleasure of being out on the water. All in a small group, guided by an attentive and experienced captain.

A water bus gliding along the water

To connect the two banks of Port Hercule in just a few minutes, whilst enjoying breathtaking views, the Camille water bus is a solution that’s as practical as it is enjoyable. This 100% electric vessel provides a fast, smooth and eco-friendly service every day from 8 am to 8 pm between the Principality’s two historic districts: Monaco-Ville and Monte-Carlo.

Open to everyone, it offers an unexpected break from the daily commute. Cast off for a few minutes, see the Rock from a different angle, glide gently from one neighbourhood to the other: this, too, is the Monegasque art of living along the water.
