6th Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge

Publication date: 13/06/2019
From 2 to 6 July 2019, 33 teams (including 22 universities) will take part in the Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge to design and build the future of yachting.

The programme for this event includes races in the categories SOLAR Class (the original category of the challenge), the OFFSHORE Class (alongside races in the Bay of Monaco, the boats will also sail from the Principality to Ventimiglia) and ENERGY Class (a new monotype class created by the Yacht Club de Monaco in 2018 which supplies catamaran hulls to  the teams, whose challenge is to design the most efficient, highest endurance propulsion system possible using the renewable energy sources of their choice, all from a given quantity of energy).

In addition to the races, the Yacht Club will organise Tech Talks and conferences to think about sustainable development issues in the sailing sector.

In the same spirit, the Yacht Club de Monaco and its partners, in collaboration with the Mayor of Monaco, are launching a challenge to all of the competitors: to get as close as possible to "zero emissions" during the week, by reducing their carbon footprint. The Y.C.M has also committed not to use boats powered by fossil  fuel sources for the week of the challenge.
