Monabike
Monaco's bicycle service, called MonaBike, is an automated system of electrically-assisted bicycle stations offered by the Monaco Government and the Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco.
This system complements the 7 daytime bus lines, the Bateau-Bus which crosses the Port Hercule, and the two night-time lines. This offer is part of a policy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve shared mobility and enhance the Principality's living environment.
Initiated in 2010 and launched commercially in 2013, the self-service electric bike system experiment has reached maturity with a doubling of the number of stations, a tripling of the number of bikes and attachments. The new system proposed by Canadian company PBSC, already present in 32 cities around the world such as Montreal, London, New York and Barcelona, has been operational in the Principality since July 13, 2019. With 2,100 subscribers and 342,000 journeys made in 2020, this new MonaBike offering is a tremendous success and has multiplied its ridership by 4.
Monabike has almost 350 bikes and 49 stations. Whatever their journey in the Principality, users will benefit from a station close to their place of departure and arrival. The service is open to subscribers as well as occasional users aged 16 and over.
The Android or iOS app and your bank card are all you need to take a bike immediately after opening your account online from your smartphone or the MonaBike website.
How does it work?
- I choose my offer on the monabike.mc website or directly in the downloadable PBSC app ;
- I pick up a bike with my contactless CAM card by presenting it on the clip or with my smartphone by scanning the QRCode on the bike via the app;
- I return my bike to a free station. The green light on the attachment confirms the end of the journey. A return confirmation e-mail will be sent within a few minutes. If you do not receive it, please call +377 97 70 22 15. If you are absent, please leave a message with your contact details.
GOOD TO KNOW
For all offers, in addition to the proposed tariff :
- the first 30 minutes of use are free
- from 30 min to 1 h, the additional cost is €1
- from 1 h of use, the additional cost is €2 per half-hour
DON'T FORGET TO RETURN YOUR BIKE TO THE STATION OF YOUR CHOICE BEFORE THE END OF THE FIRST 30 MINUTES OF USE, TO AVOID ANY ADDITIONAL CHARGES. ANY HALF-HOUR STARTED WILL BE BILLED.
Thanks to the new Monapass app (downloadable on Android and Apple), it's now possible to unlock a bike and view real-time mapping of station occupancy.
With this all-in-one mobility app (including all means of transport: bus, electric bikes, on-street parking), the Principality becomes the first European city to integrate all forms of transport in a single application.
