A concert entitled "Symphonies for Great Organs" will take place at the Cathedral on 17 August 2014

Philippe Lefebvre first discovered the organ at the age of 15 in Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, where he met the renowned organist Pierre Cochereau.  Following his studies at the Conservatory in Lille, he won first prize for organ, improvisation, fugue and counterpoint at the Higher National Conservatory of Music in Paris.

In 1985, he was named official organist of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris with Olivier Latry and Jean-Pierre Leguay.

He was Director of the National Conservatory of Lille from 1980 to 2003, and was then appointed director of the Maîtrise Notre Dame de Paris music school in Paris, then Director General of Services at Notre Dame Cathedral.

Since 2003, he has taught improvisation at the Higher National Conservatory of Music in Paris.

On 17 August 2014, Philippe Lefebvre will play works by Louis Vierne and Marcel Dupré.
