Summer 2014: City Hall brings Monaco to life

This summer, Monaco City Hall is organising concerts, a carnival, fireworks and many other activities

This year sees the tenth anniversary of “Les Musicales”. To celebrate, in addition to the concerts in Square Gastaud and Place du Marché de la Condamine, there will be five unmissable evenings at Port de Monaco: The Police (11 July), Disco Funk (25 July), Legends of Rock (1 August), Claude François (8 August), and finally The Village People (15 August) will all be brought back in five fantastic, toe-tapping tribute concerts.

The Rocher Summer Carnival and its Carnival King will be unveiled on 18 July; the theme for this year is “animals of the jungle”.  A parade of floats will make its way through the streets of the Rocher, musical groups will perform, and the event will culminate with the ball at Place de la Mairie starting at 10 pm.

There will be numerous exhibitions to explore at Monaco’s Exotic Garden between July and October, featuring botanical illustrations, photographs and sculptures. Among these is the “Flora Magnifica” exhibition, the result of close collaboration between the Exotic Garden, the Media Library of Monaco and the Monaco Art School.

Four evenings of fireworks are planned during July and August. A pre-fireworks concert based around guitar music will be offered before each event at Monaco’s Exotic Garden.

A new event at the Rainier III Outdoor Swimming Stadium will feature a “Blob Jump” demonstration on Saturday 30 August.

Blobbing involves leaping from the pool diving board onto a large rubber inflatable in order to launch your team members, who are sitting on the inflatable, into the water. Get ready for thrills, with musical accompaniment provided by a DJ!

Finally, the Media Library of Monaco will be offering books for loan at the Rainier III Outdoor Swimming Stadium. Visitors to the swimming pool will be able to borrow from a selection of 300 plastic-covered books to read on site. Books may also be borrowed as long as they are returned within a few days so that other readers can also enjoy them.
