Great Season Series: concert by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Eliahu Inbal with soprano Gerhild Romberger and tenor Christian Elsner.Sunday 28 October, at 6 pm, Auditorium Rainier III

 On the programme:

         - Anton Webern - Passacaglia Opus 1

         - Gustav Mahler - Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth), Symphony for Soprano, Tenor and Orchestra

These sung poems, inspired by Chinese poetry, were written by Gustav Mahler himself and deal with existential themes - life, solitude, intoxication and even death, the latter having had a great impact on the composer's life.
The unique world of the Song of the Earth is created by a subtle blend of joy, sadness, separation, gravity, triumphant ecstasy, irony, solitude and intense passion, expressed in an orchestration of extreme mastery.
Eliahu Inbal, one of the greatest Mahlerian conductors, will be conducting this magnificent programme.  He will have soloists that Monte-Carlo could only dream of  - Gerhild Romberger, who triumphed at the Paris Philharmonia in January 2017 (Mariss Jansons, Bavarian Radio Orchestra) in Gustav Mahler's Songs on the Death of Children, and Christian Elsner, who received a standing ovation from the Berliners in October 2016 (Bernard Haitink, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) for The Song of the Earth.

As a prelude to the concert, there will be presentation of the works at 5 pm by André Peyregne.
