Exhibition: "Chaumet in Majesty, Sovereigns' Jewels since 1780"

С пятница 12 июля по среда 28 августа 2019
On 12 July, Chaumet will unveil a new exhibition at the Grimaldi Forum: Chaumet in Majesty, Sovereigns' Jewels since 1780.From Friday 12 July to Wednesday 28 August, Grimaldi Forum Monaco - Espace Diaghilev

After Beijing in 2017 and Tokyo in 2018, Chaumet is set for the most legendary of Principalities where visitors will be able to admire some rare pieces, some going on public display for the first time, including historical gems, spectacular jewels, and pieces loaned by museums, great families or royal courts. Under the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, "Chaumet in Majesty. Sovereigns' Jewels Since 1780" is orchestrated by two curators with renowned expertise of royal courts: Stéphane Bern, a media and cultural figure, and Christophe Vachaudez, an historian specialising in jewellery.

Bringing together 250 exceptional historical creations and works of art, the exhibition showcases the history of the tiara, a symbol of sovereignty that came to embody the apogee of femininity. Originally a signifier of power chosen by Napoleon and magnified by Josephine, the first muse to inspire Chaumet, it became the centrepiece of the wedding basket that traditionally contained the precious gifts given to a young bride, the effective crowning of a love story, passed down from generation to generation, sometimes reworked according to the fashions and styles of the time. Finally, the exhibition highlights the unceasing dialogue between jewellery and the arts, making the tiara a piece that is constantly reimagined.  Going hand in hand with the evolution of the female silhouette over time, it is a statement of style and an expression of art de vivre.
