Kathak was created more than four thousand years ago in the
temples of Northern India. It
evolved in the courts of Maharajas and Mughal emperors, and is now a major form
of North Indian classical dance, which is performed on stage all over the
world.Friday 27 April, at 6 pm, Médiathèque de Monaco (Bibliothèque Louis Notari)
In 2006, Priscilla discovered classical
Indian Kathak dancing. She was captivated
by this spellbinding and very complex rhythmic dance style, by both its
artistic and cultural aspects! She
soon set off to study with a Kathak dance teacher, Pandit Ravi Shankar Mishra
in Benares, where she spent approximately 6 years. In January 2014, Priscilla founded the association Sangeet
Swiss to promote Indian classical arts in Switzerland and promote intercultural
exchanges. During her 11 years of
practice and study, Gauri has taken part in many international projects,
including Geet Govind at the Guimet Museum in Paris, teaching at the ethnomusicology
workshops in Geneva and the prestigious Sankat Mochan Samaroh festival in
Benaras, India.
