Summer Dance! - "The Taming of the Shrew" from Jean-Christophe Maillot by the Compagnie des Ballets de Monte-CarloFrom Friday 26 July to Sunday 28 July 2019, at 8 pm Grimaldi Forum Monaco - Salle des Princes

As part of the "L’Été Danse !" ("Summer Dance!") festival, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be performing The Taming of the Shrew by Jean-Christophe Maillot, his famous ballet created for the Bolshoi and which won three Masques d'Or in 2015, from 26 to 28 July in the Salle des Princes at the Grimaldi Forum (best choreography, best female role, and best male role).

An epic ballet created by Jean- Christophe Maillot in 2014 for the Bolshoi Theatre dancers, The Taming of the Shrew garnered no fewer than three Masques d’Or (best choreography, best female role, best male role). Although the tone of the production is light-hearted and ironic, the underlying theme is quite serious: the search for a soulmate. In a world where convention leaves little room for authenticity, finding "the one" is no easy task and Shakespeare's play remains as relevant as ever. Looking beyond the tropes of male dominance, Jean-Christophe Maillot has chosen to focus on what makes the essence of a relationship. The message of the Shrew is that there is someone out there for everyone, no matter who they are. Who can judge a relationship with an outside eye? Love works in mysterious ways, and it isn't for us to question it." J-Ch. Maillot.
