The checkered flag of the 71st Formula 1 Grand Prix, retrieved under water by champion free diver Pierre Frolla, will be auctioned on 12 July
As part of the 71st Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, free diver Pierre Frolla retrieved the official checkered flag from the depths of the Principality's territorial waters.
The flag has been autographed by Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco, the final four of the Monte Carlo Rolex Tennis Masters and the 22 Formula One drivers from the 2013 line-up. It will be sold at auction in aid of the Aequalia Association.
Other items will also be sold at this charity auction, including the signed Aqua Lung suit and skandalopetra used for the dive, as well as a piece of jewelry, photographs, original works and the official depth gauge watch showing the depth and time of the dive.
The aim of the Aequalia Association is to offer humanitarian aid and act in solidarity to help vulnerable populations that do not have access to drinking water.
