Wagner Concert at the Monte-Carlo Opera
The bicentenary of the birth of Richard Wagner is celebrated with Tristan and Isolde and The Walkyrie
An inveterate womaniser, spendthrift and revolutionary, Wagner was a trailblazing genius who was much admired by the intellectuals of his time but violently rejected by traditionalists.
To celebrate the bicentenary of his birth, Monte-Carlo Opera is presenting two acts, from Tristan and Isolde and The Walkyrie.
The juxtaposition of these two acts is not just chance, but portrays Richard Wagner's vision of love - love that is modern, transgressive, absolute and free from the bourgeois values to which Wagner attached little importance.
