Le plus grand bateau à énergie solaire a confirmé son retour à Monaco le 4 mai 2012 lors d’une liaison SKYPE entre S.A.S. le Prince Albert II de Monaco et M. Raphaël DOMJAN de PlanetSolar à l'occasion du salon Ever.
Le catamaran a quitté Monaco le 27 septembre 2010 et effectue un tour du monde à l’énergie solaire uniquement.
Cette initiative est soutenue par Monaco via un consortium composé de la Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco, du Groupe Monte Carlo SBM, du Yacht Club de Monaco et de la Direction du Tourisme et des Congrès de Monaco.
Depuis sa signature du Protocole de Kyoto en 1998 et ratifié le 27 février 2006, la Principauté multiplie ses efforts dans ce domaine. Elle s’est engagée à réduire ses émissions de gaz à effet de serre de 8% sur une période du 2008 à 2012.
En septembre 2011, elle a pu enregistrer une baisse de ses émissions de 15%. Les premières actions mises en place étaient la réduction des émissions liées au chauffage urbain (qui représentent environ 31 %), dues aux déplacements (34%) et à la valorisation énergétique de l’incinération des déchets ménagers(environ 30%).
Dans cette perspective, le gouvernement monégasque, la mairie, les acteurs touristiques ainsi que des entreprises privées se mobilisent chaque jour davantage dans le développement durable et s'engagent au côté de S.A.S le Prince Albert II de Monaco dans plusieurs domaines tels que la déforestation, les véhicules électriques; des infrastructures adaptées, une meilleure gestion de l'énergie et de l'eau ou encore l'organisation de salons, de conférences toujours plus "green".

Arrival of the Planet Solar in Monaco
On Friday 4th May 2012, the arrival of the PlanetSolar, the first exclusively solar-powered boat to sail around the world, will mark a turning point in the history of new environmentally friendly technologies.
The largest solar-powered catamaran in the world – 31 metres long – left Monaco on 27th September 2010, after an official presentation by H.S.H Prince Albert II, for a round-the-world trip from East to West along the equatorial route. PlanetSolar crossed the Atlantic to Miami in the United States, and then headed to Cancun in Mexico and Cartagena in Colombia before travelling along the Panama Canal in January 2011. The solar catamaran then had a stopover in French Polynesia, Noumea and Brisbane, Australia, before sailing north of Australia, close to Papua New Guinea. PlanetSolar is expected to arrive in Monaco on Friday 4th May 2012. By then, she will have sailed for 53,000 km (28,618 nautical miles). She will be moored by the Quai Rainier 1er, opposite Monaco Yacht Club, and will remain in the Principality until Sunday 6th May. Various activities and events will take place that weekend.
The objectives : to demonstrate the efficacy of the environmentally friendly new technologies and the potential of renewable and photovoltaic energy to further scientific research and raise the public's awareness of the importance of renewable sources of energy.
"The 536.65 m² of photovoltaic solar panels allow her to be propelled by solar energy alone. Everything on board is solar powered - the water, lights and telephone - apart from the cooking stove, which runs on gas," explained the boat's designer, Raphaël Domjan. The six-man crew who made the Atlantic crossing has since been reduced to four, to demonstrate "that it is not necessary to have a large crew to operate these technologies."
This initiative is part of the environmental policy that Monaco has been pursuing for many years. Since signing the Kyoto Protocol in 1998 and ratifying it in 2006, the Principality has been increasing its efforts in this field. It is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 8% between 2008 and 2012. In September 2011, it recorded a reduction in its emissions of 15%. The first actions undertaken were a reduction in emissions due to urban heating (around 31%), travel (34%) and recovering energy from incinerating domestic waste (around 30%).
The initiative is supported by a consortium composed of Monaco Tourist and Convention Authority, the Prince Albert II Foundation, the Société des Bains de Mer and Monaco Yacht Club.

Arrival of the PlanetSolar in Monaco – Seven Days to Go!
In exactly one week's time, day for day, the PlanetSolar will arrive in Monaco. She will have sailed for almost 53,000 km.
This catamaran, with her 536,65 m² of photovoltaic solar panels, will be moored on the south wall of the Quai Rainier Ier, not far from Monaco Yacht Club. After a weekend of colourful celebrations that are being organised to welcome the boat and her crew, she will depart again on Monday 7 May (see the programme of festivities). Meanwhile, the Monaco Stamp Issuing Office has been offering a PlanetSolar stamp since Friday 20 April 2012.
The PlanetSolar is the first exclusively solar-powered boat to sail around the world. Her mission is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new environmentally friendly technologies and the potential of renewable and photovoltaic energy. The aim: to advance scientific research and raise public awareness of the importance of renewable sources of energy.
