After a seven-month absence, Spanish player Rafael Nadal, who is currently ranked No. 4, seems determined to make a triumphant comeback on a clay court.  Other contenders for the title are:  Novak Djokovic  (world No. 1), Andy Murray (No. 3), David Ferrer (No. 5), not forgetting Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (No. 8), Richard Gasquet (No. 10), Gilles Simon (No. 13), Jeremy Chardy (No. 25), Julien Benneteau (No. 27) and Benoit Paire (No 38).

The very first "wild card" in the line-up of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters has been attributed to the French player Gaël Monfils.

Although the Swiss player Roger Federer (No. 2) hasn't registered yet, the Monegasque organizers remain confident.
