Silver Arrows Marine design by Mercedes-Benz in Monaco for the MYS

Visitors to Monaco at the time of the Monaco Yacht Show will get an exclusive first sight of the new yacht in concept form at a Silver Arrows Marine

London, 25th July 2012: Silver Arrows Marine (SAM) is the name of a new company to compete in the exclusive world of luxury motor yachts, taking its cue from the legendary Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows cars which dominated motor racing in the 1930s.

The new 14m yacht is currently being styled by Mercedes-Benz Style. The “Silver Arrow of the water” will feature innovations in functionality and layout never before seen in luxury motor yachts.

Visitors to Monaco at the time of the Monaco Yacht Show will get an exclusive first sight of the new yacht in concept form at a Silver Arrows Marine design presentation for press and clients being held close to Port Hercules on 19-21 September 2012.

“It will be unique in a number of ways,” said Jacopo Spadolini, Chief Executive Officer of Silver Arrows Marine. “Our design solutions will not only transform the quality of the on-board experience, but also result in a profile unlike anything else on the water.”

Ron Gibbs, Chairman and one of the project’s backers, added: “By bringing together the best people and the best ideas we are creating a high performance motor yacht worthy of the illustrious Silver Arrows name.”

Silver Arrows Marine involves not only Mercedes-Benz Style designers but also leading figures in naval architecture and marine engineering. They include Martin Francis, the architect whose innovations include the hull design of the superyacht “A” and the construction technique used to build the glass pyramid at the Louvre in Paris, and Tommaso Spadolini – with 200 yachts to his name, including the first to run at more than 70 knots. Other key figures include Guido M. Pedone (Chief Financial Officer) and Giorgio Stirano (Engineering Director) and Paolo Bonaveri (Global Marketing and PR Director).

Silver Arrows Marine Limited is a UK registered company, with backers from around the world.

Further details of the first Silver Arrows Marine yacht will follow soon.

Monaco Yacht Show 2012

From 19 to 22 September 2012, the MYS, which is regarded as the most prestigious luxury yachting show in the world, will play host to the leading luxury yachting companies and around a hundred superyachts and megayachts, which will be moored in Port Hercule.

The quintessence of superyachting on show in Monaco

Captains of industry, yacht owners, their representatives and an affluent clientele will all gather from 19 to 22 September for four days of meetings and viewings with the five hundred leading luxury yachting companies from all over the world who will be exhibiting at the show.  The greatest shipyards, top yacht designers, the main brokerage agencies and the leading superyacht equipment suppliers will all be in Port Hercule in Monaco to display their latest products and luxury services and their future projects for superyachts.

The organizers of the MYS are predicting another busy year, with new initiatives to spark new deals.  As Gaëlle Tallarida, General Director of the show stated:  "We are fully aware that the MYS has become an event that many yacht companies can’t afford to miss.  Our role is to offer the best working and exhibiting conditions to all participants, so that they only have to focus on their main objective when attending the event – doing business.  It takes a whole year to deliver a world-class event like this;  we have developed partnerships with very high-end service suppliers to meet the high expectations of the exhibitors and visitors.  They must feel in the right place with the right people to do business.”

100 superyachts and megayachts will be on display in Port Hercule, including around 40 new craft

Brokers and shipyards will therefore be unveiling their latest and most spectacular superyachts at the Monaco Yacht Show, with the aim of winning over some new buyers.  100 superyachts and megayachts, from 25 to 90 meters (82 to 295 ft) (average length 46 m)(150 ft) and around 40 new craft will be on show for the first time in the world.  The MYS team have already confirmed the participation of some exceptional superyachts such as the Mogambo, a 74-meter (243 ft) aluminum megayacht launched by the German shipyard Nobiskrugin in October 2011.   One of the stars of the show this year is Better Place (50.5 meters)(166 ft), by the Monegasque shipyard Wally, who have also chosen Monaco for their debut on the international scene.  Better Place is the largest carbon fibre sloop in the world and the first yacht built according to RINA Green Start norms.  Monte Carlo was made to host "Diamonds are Forever."  Named as such by her owner, a fan of James Bond, this elegant 61-meter (200 ft) megayacht was launched by Benetti in November 2011 and is a balanced combination of traditional design and innovative modernism, in the Italian shipyard's signature style.  Proclaimed “Sailing Superyacht of the Year” at the 2012 World Superyacht Awards and with five International Superyacht Awards to date, Vertigo will definitely be one of the most awaited superyachts in Monaco (67.2 meters)(220 ft), built by Alloy Yachts).

New Upper Deck Lounge

This year, the MYS is presenting a brand-new 650 m2 (7,000 sq ft) reception complex in the heart of the show for holding meetings or entertaining the most prestigious clients in the official restaurant, in the luxurious setting reserved for the show's partners.
The Upper Deck Lounge, in the air-conditioned tent of the Parvis Piscine, has replaced the former restaurant and lounge area.  It has been styled by interior designer Sabrina Monte-Carlo in association with Italian designer Paola Lenti, the French crystal manufacturer Baccarat and the Opera art gallery.  Comfortable meeting areas are available to the exhibitors, where they can meet clients in a confidential setting.  The new official sponsor, the German car manufacturer BMW, will be exhibiting its latest BMW 7 Series luxury saloon car, which combines stylish design with luxury and comfort.  Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin, an official sponsor for the 4th consecutive year, will present its finest collections of the luxury watches on its stand in the Upper Deck Lounge.

The Superyachts at the 2012 Monaco Yacht Show

All the superlatives … from "extraordinary" to "fantastic" … have already been used to describe the superyachts at the annual Monaco Yacht Show. The 22nd show, which will be held from 19 to 22 September 2012, will be no exception to the rule, with a (insert the superlative of your choice!) flotilla of 103 superyachts …

The Monaco Yacht Show is still the most popular superyachting show in the world, because it the only opportunity of the year to admire the latest in design and the industry's best yachts in a single place.  61% of the yachts on show are less than two years old.

The average length of the superyachts in Monaco this year is 46.70 meters (153 ft) (overall length), for a total of 103 boats exhibited.  The 2012 show is offering the impressive total of 73 superyachts of over 40 meters (131 ft) and a record total for the over 70-meter (229-ft) category, with six megayachts of an average length of 80.11 m (262 ft).  Four of these are new deliveries for 2012:  the Nirvana, at 88.5 meters (290 ft), the Hampshire II, at 78.5 meters (257 ft),  the Smeralda, at 77 meters (252 ft) and the Mogambo, at 73.51 meters (241 ft).

The largest motor yacht will be on show at the 2012 MYS

The "Nirvana," which was delivered in April 2012, will make her debut on the international scene at the 2012 MYS.  This megayacht, which was designed by Sam Sorgiovanni, is impressively spacious, with six decks, a 150-m² (1,614 sq ft) owner's suite, five guest cabins, a crew of 26, a gym and a 3D cinema.  More unusual are the two vivariums, with a chameleon, water dragons, turtles and exotic frogs.  Her garage contains a whole range of "toys," with two 11-meter (36-ft) tenders, an 8.5-meter (27-ft) waterski boat, six jet skis and diving equipment.

The Most Stylish Design

The "Vertigo" is the largest boat from the New Zealand shipyard Alloy Yachts.  It was acclaimed by the whole industry at the 2012 Showboats Awards, winning three prizes (including the interior design prize).

This is the first time that Alloy Yachts has worked in association with French designers Philippe Briand and Christian Liagre (who have worked on the interior design of houses for Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld and Kenzo), and is the culmination of technical success based on 25 years' expertise in yachtbuilding.

The Most "Sporty"

The brief from the owner was simple – to have fun on board.  Feadship definitely followed these instructions when designing the "Hampshire II!"  The yacht has a heliport at the bow that can be transformed into a football pitch, or a basketball, tennis, baseball or badminton court.  There is even a giant net to stop balls being lost overboard!

The largest carbon fibre sloop

The Bugatti blue color and the exterior design might be the most striking features at first sight, but "Better Place" stands out most of all for being the largest carbon fibre sloop ever constructed, and the first sailing boat developed according to the Italian certification company Rina's rigorous "Green Star Class" standards.

The Greenest

Monaco Yacht Show, in association with Rina, will award the 2012 "Green Plus" certificate to the yacht whose construction has adhered most closely to strict ecological standards, drawn up in conformity with international regulations on protecting the environment.

This year, two yachts are being awarded this certification:  "Better Place" (see above) and "Aslec 4," with interior design by Remi Téssier, which is part of a new generation of yachts that take today's priorities into account – respecting the environment, economical technical performance and being roomy without necessarily taking up too much space.  Of note is the fact that the "Aslec 4" is the second yacht by the Italian shipyard Rossinavi to receive the Green Star certification, following "Numptia" last year.

Not to be Missed

- "La Pellegrina" is being presented at the 2012 MYS as a world première.  She is the largest composite yacht ever built in one piece in France.  She took 160,000 hours to build and has 500 m2 (5,381 sq ft) of living space and 500 m2 (5,381 sq ft) of decks and terraces.

- "Satori" is returning to the Monaco Yacht Show in 2012 after winning the design prize at the 2011 MYS and best interior design prize (in the "semi-displacement motor yacht" category) at the 2012 Showboats Awards.

- "Diamonds are Forever," was so named by its owner, a James Bond fan.  This elegant 61-meter (200-ft) megayacht, launched by Benetti in November 2011, offers a perfect balance of traditional design and innovative contemporary style, reflecting the Italian shipyard's signature style perfectly.

- The "Mogambo," which was brought out by the German shipyard Nobiskrug in October 2011, is a 74-meter (242-ft) aluminum yacht with an impressive amount of space.
