A Summer of Dance in Monaco

From 10 to 19 July, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo are performing a range of works at the Opéra Garnier that showcase the versatility and excellence of the dancers

From 10 to 12 July, on the same evening, audiences can rediscover Jean-Christophe Maillot's "Vers un Pays Sage"  ("Towards a Wise Country") and "Shéhérazade."  The first ballet is the choreographer's generous, enthusiastic tribute to his father, the painter Jean Maillot.  With "Shéhérazade," Jean-Christophe Maillot offers a ballet with a taste of the Orient, for which the gilded splendour of the Salle Garnier is a perfect setting.  Echoing the endless wave-like motions of Rimsky-Korsakov's score, this ballet seems to have come straight from the tales of the Thousand and One Nights.

From 17 to 19 July, a programme of three different works will offer the audience an opportunity to experience a wide range of emotions.
- Rondo, by the Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman, a rhythmic work bursting with energy and inventiveness;
- Blind Willow, by the Norwegian choreographer Ina Christel Johannessen, a poetic, touching work that explores the balance of the body through a stage set based on light and dark effects;
- Arithmophobia, a new work by Jeroen Verbruggen, who is also a young dancer from the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, will invite the spectator to reflect on the fear of numbers and the end of the world.
