Richard Artschwager at the New National Museum of Monaco

The largest and most complete retrospective of the artist's work ever staged to date will open at the Villa Paloma on 20 February 2014

This exhibition at the New National Museum of Monaco (NMNM) is being organised by Marie-Claude Beaud, the Museum's Director.  Following an exhibition of his work at the Whitney Museum in New York, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and the Haus der Kunst in Munich also hosted the Richard Artschwager exhibition.

The exhibition features more than 135 works created over six decades and includes sculptures, paintings, drawings, photos and posters.

Although his work has often been associated with pop art, minimalism and conceptual art, it has never really been possible to classify it in any of these specific categories.  It has remained at the crossroads of several disciplines.

His work has consistently explored questions regarding his own visual and physical engagement with the world;  his objects hover between illusion and reality.

The exhibition reveals the artist’s prescience in his career-long commitment to exploring the profound effect photography and technology have had in transforming our view of the world.  

His work has called into question how these media – and our experience of things as images rather than as things in themselves – have altered our perception from being rooted in primary physical experience to a knowledge mediated by secondary sources such as newspapers, television, and the Internet.

In the seven rooms of the Villa Paloma, the NMNM is presenting a retrospective exhibition focussing on varies series, from the artist's first experiments using Formica to drawings, and including paintings on industrial materials and pieces of furniture.  This latest version of the exhibition is an opportunity to discover and better understand the work of this important pioneer of contemporary art.

Sur la piste des BLP d'Artschwager dans les établissements de Monte-Carlo SBM

Les BLP (prononcer Blip) de l'artiste, matérialisés par une marque noire de forme oblongue aux bouts arrondis se dispersent dans vingt lieux de la ville dont dix établissements du resort.

Dans le cadre de l’exposition organisée par le Nouveau Musée National de Monaco du 20 février au 30 septembre 2014, le groupe Monte-Carlo SBM a souhaité participer en apposant les BLP de l'artiste Richard Artschwager dans ses établissements.
 
Le but est d’orienter le regard et attirer l’attention sur des lieux et des choses qui souvent passent inaperçus.
 
Produits dans une gamme de matériaux allant du vinyle aux pochoirs peints à la bombe, en passant par le bois et le crin caoutchouté.

Les BLPS d’Artschwager ont été installés par le passé dans de nombreux lieux publics aux Etats-Unis et en Europe (métros, façades de bâtiments, musées, etc.). 

Afin de donner une dimension participative et ludique à cette exposition, un jeu concours via les réseaux sociaux a été mis en place. Pour y participer il suffit d’être attentif à l’environnement, de laisser vagabonder le regard dans l’espace urbain à la recherche des BLPS et de partager ses découvertes du 20 février au 30 septembre 2014 en publiant ses photos d’un BLP avec le hashtag #BLPMC sur Instagram ou Twitter ou par email à : [email protected]
 
Le gagnant sera tiré au sort le 1er Octobre et pourra profiter d’un séjour d’une nuit pour deux personnes au Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort ainsi que d’un soin au SPA Cinq Mondes

The Novotel Monte-Carlo's BLP

Inspired by the Richard Artschwager exhibition at the New National Museum of Monaco, this Monegasque hotel is taking part and displaying a BLP

BLPs (pronounced "blips") were created by Artschwager in the late 1960s.  They appear as an oblong black shape with rounded ends, with the aim of pointing and attracting attention to places and things that often go unnoticed.

BLPs have been transforming art spaces and streets for decades, creating the conditions for "useless looking" – to which the artist aspired throughout his career – to develop, rather like a punctuation mark that has no function.

A BLP has been fixed to the façade of the Novotel Monte-Carlo Hotel.  It can be photographed (until 30 September 2104) by anyone who would like to participate.  To do so, publish a photo of your BLP with the hashtag #BLPMC in the text or caption on Instagram or Twitter or e-mail it to [email protected]

Atelier "Jeune Public" au Nouveau Musée National de Monaco

Les enfants peuvent découvrir l'oeuvre de Richard Artschwager dans le cadre d'un atelier qui se déroulera du mardi 22 au vendredi 25 avril 2014

La Villa Paloma propose un atelier autour de l'artiste Richard Artschwager.

Après une visite de l’exposition permettant aux enfants de découvrir la diversité des sujets d'intérêt de Richard Artschwager des ateliers sur divers thèmes sont organisés.

Au programme : le dessin en perspective, le trompe-l’œil, la réalisation de maquettes en papier et d’œuvres en volume. 

Ouvert aux enfants de 6 à 12 ans dans la limite des places disponibles .
